I suppose this is a valid blog post since it’s somewhat related to a wedding. I was in Canyon, TX this past weekend, which is about 20 miles south of Amarilla, to shoot a wedding. Because it’s such a long drive from Austin(9 hours), I decided to head up there a day early – it just made sense, logistically. Even though I left at 6am, by the time I arrived at my hotel and got settled in, there was only about 3 hours of daylight remaining. My original plan was to go to Palo Duro Canyon State Park so that I could do some landscape photography, something I haven’t done is so long. I miss it! Instead, I decided to visit the famous Cadillac Ranch. I tried to see it once before on a road trip I was taking to Colorado, but the timing wasn’t right and you can’t see the Ranch at night. Located west of Amarillo on the old Route 66, there lies 10 Cadillacs buried halfway into the ground, covered in graffiti, in the middle of a wheat field. Truly a spectacle to feast the eyes on! If you’re driving through that general area, I highly suggest stopping by. Maybe they’ll even be some cans of spray paint laying around for you to make your mark.
